Around the House: My "New" Table and Chairs!

About 2 years ago, we finished out our upstairs. It seemed to take forever, because we contracted out each separate job or did it ourselves. It was well worth the process, though. Even though we finished it out as a bedroom with a closet, we turned it into our grown-up "playroom." It's where we hang out after work everyday pretty much. I lacked one thing though....a table.
Enter our old, beatup cheapo kitchen table.
D bought this table from Home Depot when he bought the house. He bought it because he needed something to eat at and this was cheap...and I kinda think that fact that it was at Home Depot and not at a furniture store probably played a part. heehee.
Anyhow, about a year ago we finally bought a new table. It's nothing fancy, but it's at least a small upgrade. But at the time, I couldn't just get rid of this table, so off to the attic it went. I figured next time I cleaned the attic, it would get the boot. Then about a month ago I read this very inspiring blog post by John & Sherry over at the fabulouso blog "Young House Love" about how they painted their table. I thought to myself, if they did it surely I can do it too! So after work one day, I headed to Lowes in my dress clothes and heels for some supplies.

I picked up Oil Based Primer- Kilz, Stain Latex Paint by Valspar, and Polycrylic Finish in Satin- by Minwax.
Then here's the steps I followed:
#1. Sanded down the whole piece until the original shiny finish was gone.
#2. Cleaned all Sand Dust off the table.
#3. Primed the entire table with the Kilz and a paintbrush and let it sit for 24 hours.
#4. Used a foam cabinet roller to paint the whole piece in the Satin Black paint. I let it sit for a few hours and then put a second coat on and let it sit for 24 hours.
#5. Used a foam cabinet "brush" to put a thin coat of polycrylic over the whole piece. Then I let it sit for 48 hours.

And here's the final product:

I think it looks fantabulous!! It's the perfect size for the room. It will be the perfect place for us to do crafts on, write out the bills on, do puzzles on, play games on, etc. I am thrilled to have a table up there, and to think that I repurposed our table and gave it a whole new life makes me SO happy!
(Pssst...I will tell you a secret. I've also redone and repurposed another piece to give it a whole new life and save it from the landfills, so stay tuned for that!)

I just need to add a light fixture above the table and this corner will be a real retreat! Now you may be wondering about those awesome chairs I put at my table. Aren't they great??
West Elm has these fabulous ScoopBack Chairs:
but they are $79 each!! No way, Jose! I checked the West Elm Outlet, and I did find one but it was still $50. Then one day I was in Target and I saw this little parsons table setup and they had these awesome scoopback chairs for only $69.99 for TWO!! And it must've been my day, because they were also on sale  for $59 for the pair of them.
Modern Stacking Chairs 2 pk - White
I snatched them up and had them waiting for the day I finished repurposing the table. I think they are just as nice as the West Elm version and the pair of them didn't even cost as much as one, single chair from West Elm! Overall, I think my mini table makeover rocks. If you have any furniture refinishing questions about the process I did, ask away. I will definitely be doing some more pieces!

You can never have enough fun populating a small house with furniture either with table and chairs or a refrigerator. It is one of the play values that Epoch has put on to build a toy line like the Sylvanian Families for everyone to be interested in.
